Monday
Rest / XT day. Daily 45 crunches in my office goal @ lunch break is still in full effect! Woo. I was actually a little sore by Thursday morning (Day 10). Goes to show how much core work I've been getting before this. (Zip, ziltch, zero).
But we're trying to do a bit more than 45 crunches. Every day I add a few, and we do something new to go with it: one plank (I can hold for 1:47 now), some bananas, some super girls, and/or leg raises. Basically we roll around on the floor for about ten minutes looking like this:
I talked a co-worker into joining me. We spend ten minutes giggling behind closed door, and hope no one ever cross examines us about what we're doing in here! ;)
And here's what supergirl and banana actually look like when you're not mid-selfie. :)
Unfortunately, no other Fab in February goals made it to day 10. Fizzy free tanked at day 5. I've missed two 10k days on the Fitbit. And food tracking bit the dust, too. All work-related stress. Not going to sweat it too much. Baby steps are key, and I feel I am coming along and better for having put in the effort the days that I did.
Tuesday
#10kTuesday Photo: Where's Judy? Oh yea, she's the faceless photo bomber. :)
Distance: 6.2
Pace: 10:25ish
This run began rather sluggishly, but we did pick up a little on the return. I am at least proud that mid-10s is now labelled my "slugfest" speed. My legs really did feel a little unusually tired and sore, though; I think it was residual from taking my first 3.1 in the Vibrams last Sunday. I also am very sure that the "wear two of everything" idea factored into the pace ...
I had on: two pairs of socks, two leggings, two bras, a short sleeve, a long sleeve, a thermal, a vest, gloves, and a hat. 28 degrees, or not, that amount of coverage is ridiculous, and I paid for my mistake. Mental note: Georgia may possibly never get cold enough for that kind of gear! Glad we avoided the wind that started up toward the end of our run, though. We also missed the snow flakes that started up after we finished. (boo).
Rogue Thursday
BOOM!
Ecstatic with these splits. The flurry-tastic weather took a turn for the milder, and Thursday night rogue was in the ~50s. Perfect speed work out weather.
For a moment, I thought this work out was destined for tank's ville. I felt stiff during the warm up, and my butt felt strained (weird runner problems?). I didn't time the warm up because I was low on batteries, but I didn't let myself go nuts. If it didn't feel easy, I didn't want any part of it. By lap two, though, it did start to feel easy, so I started feeling better about the possibility of hitting at the very least my indicator target of 9:05. I also figured reverse intervals would be the lease awful. And that proved very sustainable. I walked half of each recovery, and jogged the other half, which is standard for me. On one, I lost and then found my water bottle (and car key). Darn kids and their silly playfulness. The speediest I got was when I could see Jerry. I could keep him in my sights for a while, and that would make me push. At the end, I also kept in mind that I HAD seen ~7s at the END of a full 3.1 with Angelina for at least 20-40 seconds, so at the end I told myself there was NO reason why I couldn't at least do that on a 1 miler. The end result makes me very happy! The first one would be my pace per indicator for 1 mile. The second, the pace I would do my 1 mile according to my last 5K, and the third one would have me repeating my 5K PR. So more of those coming up! :)
Very excited. Test driving a week's worth of meal prep help via Good Measure Meals. I pick up my food rations on Monday, and start on Tuesday. Having someone else think about my intake sounds like a step in the right direction, and I hope its a hit! I will be back with more info on that next week.
Medical
Random worry this week about bruising. I have had a small black & blue on my knee since my fall ... IN OCTOBER. On Saturday, I had what looked like a random black eye. And yesterday, I discovered the nastiest big ole' blue bruise taking up like a third of my right thigh .. and I could not begin to tell you why it was there! (No, Bill is not beating me up in my sleep .. <giggle>).
Normally, I am not a worry-wart about health-related things .. but the big "C" recurrence is always on the back burner of my mind now. How these two would fit together, I have no clue. But I do find that medicine rarely has the answer to my very specific health-related questions, like: how does being a thyroid-cancer survivor with no thyroid affect a long distance runner. Medical community: beats the heck out of us. Or at least, there isn't much written on the topic. I know I don't regulate my body temperature very well, but that is never an issue on a race; just after. But the bruises, and the fact that I am feeling generally more lazy and under-energize, had me ringing up my endo this week. Its about that time for my annual blood work and sonogram. Might as well put it on the calendar, and make sure my THS, FT3, iron, and Vitamin-D levels are all copacetic.
(This doom and gloom thread is enough to have me dialing the Endo: http://www.medhelp.org/posts/Thyroid-Disorders/endurance-running-thyroid/show/1247599 Allowing myself to run hypo sounds like a pretty bad recipe for disaster. The problem is that what I had become familiar with as "feeling hypo" post surgery but pre-distance running is now how I feel post long-run on a good day! ;) The new norm makes it hard to self diagnose when I need medication changes. Its hard to tell if this is good tired or scary tired. The conversation pretty much went like: "Yup, doc, I just ran 9 miles, and I didn't feel all that zippy for the rest of the day; can you check my blood work?" lol. But anyways .. appointment is on the calendar. Fingers crossed for 7 year survivor status clearance!)
Coming up
Seriously a bit nervous about running 11 Saturday. For some reason or another, I have not run my full distance in one run for a couple of weeks now. (indicator run, the Hearts and Soles race, etc). The longest consecutive runs have been on the order of 9 miles, and most have been high mile days only because of two work outs (like last Tuesday: 6.2 in AM, 4 at night, etc). I know I can still do the distance, but I am going to be conservative on the pace until at least the 10k mark.
